The General March Happenings and quick recap! 3/16/24
Ok, I know, it's March in like a lion, and out like a lamb. A term my parents or older generations may remember saying around this time. I usually thought of it as a soft reminder of just how fast time goes by really. But it turns out it most likely started as a reference to astronomy, referencing the position of the constellations Leo (a lion) and Aries (a ram, or lamb) in the night sky.
But why a Fox? Well this is the season for Foxes, and we've had a fair share! As we seem to have this post every year around this time, now's the time a lot of you are noticing some missing stock, lost animals, or just plain out predatory destruction of one's furry or feathered friends. We recently had a very large fox come by for a weekend stay.

As if some AirBNB with a free buffet!
Complacency get's the best of us. We fell victim, as many of you have too. It can be a forgetful mishap of leaving a latch open, or incorrect counts in what most are doing just at dark. We had become complacent of leaving turkeys and ducks out. Turkeys would sleep on a tall buildings edge, and the ducks remained happily swimming in artic pond water.
We lost some turkeys and some ducks. One of which was our oldest duck and one of the first we ever got. While we were able to catch them on many of our security cameras, it only told the story of what happened, and wasn't able to wake us with notifications. I should also point out Raccoon, opossum and others during the spring are just as much out there. Bears for some, bobcats for others. We must keep out guard up, and always be vigilant the mother nature has been doing farming much longer than we have, and the often find a way to win.
New Animals
Overall this March has brought new life, just as much. In a previous post we showed off our small little kid goats, doing very good, and well taken care of by mama. They are now well seasoned at moving all around the property with the herd, and take no time moving around in the blink of an eye. It was a lot to watch for while they learned this new found freedom but they are doing great!
We also added 7 new piglets for the first of the season (no sold, sorry) and expecting more soon. This is always a fun start when the weather is good. 7 healthy piglets doing great, and learning the lay of the land. Stay tuned for upcoming post with pictures! The Feed Store!
